Video: Israel Adesanya’s first Thread is an unexpected bromance with Jon Jones

Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones appear to be friends now based on Adesanya's debut on the new social media platform Thread.

Israel Adesanya posts first Thread featuring Jon Jones

For a long while, UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya and heavyweight champ Jon Jones were seemingly bitter rivals. Of course that was when Adesanya was talking about moving up to light heavyweight where Jones was the long-time champ.

Now that Jones has moved up to heavyweight and taken the title and after Adesanya’s loss to LHW champ Jan Błachowicz at UFC 259 in 2021 they seem to have buried the hatchet. Adesanya made his debut post on Meta’s new Threads and he and Jon Jones can be seen palling around very friendly in an airport.

Adesanya: “I was f*cking with, at first, Alex… this motherf*cker Jones! The f*ck you…Hey hey hey hey hey chill! It’s all love.”

Jones: “Blessings king,”

Adesanya: “Bless up king. Man!”

Is this Threads thing the reason for Elon Musk vs Mark Zuckerberg?

Threads is a brand new app spun off of Meta’s Instagram platform. Mark Zuckerberg launched it yesterday and coincidentally made his first tweet in over a decade (below). His post on Threads was more informative saying, “Just passed 5 million sign ups in the first four hours…”

Zuckerberg also said in a Thread responding to MMA fighter Mike Davis “It’ll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1bn+ people on it. Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it. Hopefully we will.”

Musk didn’t take long to respond.

Does this mean Israel Adesanya is on Team Zuckerberg?

Whether or not Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg end up fighting in a cage in the Roman Colosseum (spoiler alert: they won’t), UFC fighters and fans have been very willing to take sides. We’ve seen UFC legend Georges St. Pierre apparently training with Elon Musk and Dana White being cited as the official source for The New York Times claim that ‘hey maybe this fight will happen’. Is Adesanya’s early adoption of Threads a dis to Elon Musk?

Time will tell.
